The diverse sonic worlds that Carmen Villain has built over her career are shaped by her natural curiosity of sound. Her music hits a sweet spot between dub’s blunt rhythmic lilt and cosmic fourth world, using woodwinds and other samples in creating evocative granular soundscapes and off-kilter rhythms. Her most recent studio album, Only Love From Now On (Smalltown Supersound), was released to critical acclaim. The most recent release, Nutrition EP, delves deeper into the mutant dub vortex. Carmen has brought her atmospheric live performance to venues and festivals such as Berlin Atonal, ICA London, Dekmantel and Mutek. She composed the score for Eszter Salamon’s contemporary dance performance The Living Monument, and is currently working on music for film installation Landscaping, in collaboration with Salamon and Ircam Paris.
